Grade 9 Student Dies in Tragic Rooftop Fall at CITAM Schools Ngong

CITAM Schools Ngong has confirmed the death of a Grade 9 student following a tragic incident in which she fell from the rooftop of the school on Tuesday morning.

In a statement dated July 14, the school said the student sustained serious injuries after the fall and was immediately attended to by the Head of School and members of staff before being rushed to Karen Hospital in consultation with her parents.

“Today in the morning, we experienced a serious incident involving a Grade 9 student who fell from the rooftop. The Head of School and our staff acted immediately to ensure she received urgent medical attention,” read part of the statement.

However, the student was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The school described the incident as a devastating loss to its community and extended its condolences to the student’s parents, family, friends, and classmates.

Regrettably, we must inform you that she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. This is a devastating loss for our school community, and our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to the parents, family, friends and classmates of our beloved student,” read part of the statement.

Following the incident, CITAM Schools Ngong said it reported the matter to Ngong Police Station and is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities as investigations continue.

The school added that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is assisting with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

“We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” the school said.

School Urges Public to Avoid Speculation

CITAM Schools Ngong also said that it would provide professional counselling and pastoral support to the bereaved family, learners, and members of staff affected by the incident.

“As a school rooted in faith, we are turning to God for strength. We will be providing professional counseling and pastoral support to the affected parents, our learners, and staff who may need assistance processing this tragic event,” the statement said.

Additionally, the school appealed to members of its community and the public to refrain from spreading unverified information about the incident while investigations are ongoing.

It also urged parents, learners, and staff to respect the privacy of the bereaved family and allow investigators to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

“We respectfully request all members of our school community to refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information, whether in person or on social media, out of respect for the bereaved family and to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigations,” the school said.
