A Kenyan man has been sentenced to 18 years and eight months in prison in the United Kingdom after pleading guilty to the murder of his ex-lover, who is a fellow Kenyan, Linner Sang.

According to authorities, Edwine Kiplangat, 29, was sentenced by the court after pleading guilty to murder and two counts of assault and actual bodily harm.

Investigators said the fatal attack took place on September 7 2025, at a home in Reading, where Linner, who is 39 years old, had returned to collect her belongings after the end of their relationship.

During the visit, Kiplangat attacked Linner and fatally stabbed her. Emergency services were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead.

Court Proceedings

Court proceedings indicated that Linner was stabbed multiple times, with the attack taking place in the presence of friends and neighbours.

Police established that the killing had been planned before the suspect attempted to flee.

He was later arrested the following day and charged with the offences.

During sentencing, the court imposed a custodial sentence of 18 years and eight months after taking into account his guilty plea.

Their Relationship

Kiplangat and Linner Sang had been in a relationship and lived together at the London Road address in Reading before breaking up over differences that were not disclosed.

Kiplangat had moved to the UK in February 2024 on a visa linked to his relationship with Linner, while Linner had already been living in the UK for a while.

Under UK law, the sentence includes a minimum term to be served before parole eligibility is considered, subject to legal procedures.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Stuart Brangwin of Thames Valley Police described the killing as a tragic case of domestic abuse that ended in the loss of a woman’s life.
