Holy Dave Reveals How Ombachi Beat Him to Macron Cooking Opportunity

Share

Content creator and gospel artist David Mutheingi, popularly known as Holy Dave, revealed that he was supposed to host French President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Kenya for the Africa Forward Summit in May, before fellow creator Dennis Ombachi got the opportunity.

Speaking at the Iko Nini podcast on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Holy Dave made the revelation while discussing the controversy that followed Ombachi’s encounter with Macron, saying he had never previously told people that he was part of the plans.

“I was actually part of that. I have never told people. I did not cook. I was to be involved in two other events,” Holy Dave said.

According to Holy Dave, the opportunity eventually went to Ombachi, who hosted Macron during his visit to Kenya. Macron and Ombachi later made headlines after cooking together, with the encounter attracting mixed reactions online.

Holy Dave Says Ombachi Beat Him to the Opportunity

Holy Dave explained that he had been lined up for an opportunity connected to Macron before Ombachi took over.

“Mine started before. Like there was a time I was actually to host the France ambassador. I talked to the guys and then our boy, Chef Ombachi, beat me to it,” he said.

Rather than pursuing the opportunity further, Holy Dave said he began reconsidering his own involvement after seeing how members of the public reacted to Ombachi’s encounter with Macron.

Holy Dave added that he was also invited to other events, including concerts, but eventually decided to leave them because he did not want to be associated with the situation.

Holy Dave Says He Would Have Turned It Down

Asked how he would have handled the situation if he had been in Ombachi’s position, Holy Dave said his decision would have been guided by personal conviction.

“To me honestly, it’s a personal conviction. I would not do it, but he did it,” he said.

Holy Dave, however, questioned the criticism directed at Ombachi, arguing that some of those condemning the encounter online may react differently if presented with a similar opportunity.

“I feel that a lot of people are talking online because they have never gotten opportunities. But if you get those opportunities, will you do the same thing?” he asked.

For Holy Dave, the decision ultimately came down to maintaining his principles, even when it came at a financial cost.

“Being in a more privileged space where I have gotten these opportunities and rejected them at the cost of even losing finances, I still hold my ground and say there are things that I won’t do,” he said.
