How to Expedite Passport Processing in Kenya: Fast Track Service Explained
Share
Kenyans with urgent travel needs can speed up passport processing by following the correct procedures and using official Immigration support channels.
Although the Directorate of Immigration Services does not publish a separate “fast-track passport category” with a fixed timeline, officers may prioritise urgent cases, with some processed within 48–72 hours depending on the situation and approval.
To begin with, submit your passport application through the eCitizen portal and complete these required steps:
- Fill in Passport Application Form 19
- Pay the prescribed passport fee, which is a 34-page ordinary passport at Ksh 7,550, a 50-page ordinary passport at Ksh 9,550, and a 66-page ordinary passport at Ksh 12,050
- Book an appointment
- Visit a passport processing centre for biometric capture
At this stage, choose a convenient centre since the Directorate operates across the country, including Nairobi at Nyayo House, as well as Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Embu, Kisii, Kericho, and Bungoma.

Submit Proof of Urgency for Passport Processing
Next, present documentary evidence during biometric enrolment to show why your travel is urgent. You can support your request using:
- Medical emergency documents, such as official doctor or hospital referral letters
- Employment-related documents, including job offers or employer request letters
- Education documents, such as admission letters or scholarship confirmations, with reporting dates
By submitting clear and valid documents, you increase your chances of getting priority processing.
In addition, identify yourself at the processing centre if you are travelling for labour migration or overseas work.
Immigration has set up special desks to assist applicants in these categories and guide them through the process more efficiently.
