Jah Prayzah Postpones Wedding After Death of Wicknell Chivayo, Wife in Helicopter Crash

Zimbabwean contemporary musician Jah Prayzah has postponed his wedding scheduled for Saturday, October 3, to mourn businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy and others who died in a helicopter crash.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on October 1, Jah Prayzah announced the postponement, saying he decided out of love and respect for Chivayo’s family as they grieve their loss.

“Out of love, respect and the need to grieve with family, our wedding which was scheduled for 3 October has been postponed,” the statement read.

Jah Prayzah Mourns Wicknell Chivayo

The musician described Chivayo as more than a friend, highlighting the close relationship they shared over the years.

“Wicknell was more than a friend to us. He was family, a brother, and someone who walked closely with us through many chapters of life. Losing him together with Lucy in such a sudden way is a pain that is difficult to put into words,” he said.

Additionally, Jah Prayzah extended his condolences to the families of everyone who lost a loved one in the helicopter crash.

“Our hearts and prayers are also with every family that lost a loved one in this tragedy,” he condoled.

Thomas Mapfumo Set to Perform

Before the crash, Chivayo had offered veteran musician Thomas Mapfumo US$500,000 to perform at Jah Prayzah’s wedding.

Mapfumo accepted the offer and confirmed that he would perform at the ceremony.

Reports published ahead of the wedding indicated that Mapfumo was expected to perform on October 3.

Jah Prayzah Keeps Wedding Plans

Despite postponing the ceremony, Jah Prayzah said he would proceed with the wedding plans at a later date.

“We will continue with our wedding plans when the time is right,” he said.

The musician did not announce a new date for the ceremony. Instead, he said the plans would continue when the appropriate time comes.
