Uganda’s First Lady and Education Minister, Janet Museveni, has broken her silence following a recent health concern, expressing gratitude for her recovery and the support she received during her illness.

In a heartfelt message dated Thursday, June 25, 2026, Janet Museveni described her experience as a powerful affirmation of her faith.

“It’s me, Janet Museveni. It is a confirmation that the God I talk about is a living God. He is not a myth, He lives!,” she stated.

She went on to thank Ugandans for their prayers and acknowledged President Yoweri Museveni for leading the nation spiritually during her recovery period.

“I must therefore thank Uganda, beginning with Mzee, who has prayed with the whole nation. I praise God for leading us to know Him. Thank you all for coming out publicly to pray for me,” she said.

First Public Statement

Notably, these remarks mark her first public statement on the matter, as she reassured the public about her condition while highlighting the role of faith and unity in her recovery.

Her absence from several public events had sparked speculation about her health. During that time, President Yoweri Museveni appointed an acting Education Minister to temporarily take over the ministry, a position held by the First Lady.

Earlier, the First Lady missed the ceremony at Kololo ceremonial grounds where President Yoweri Museveni took the oath for his next term in office.

Significantly, this marked the first time since the 1996 election that ‘Mama’ Janet Kataaha Museveni did not attend such a ceremony.

Instead, President Museveni was accompanied by one of his daughters, Natasha Karugire, who stood to his left as he stepped onto the dais to take the oath of office.
