Kameme FM Explains Reports That It Is Shutting Down

Kameme FM has dismissed claims circulating on social media that it will be shut down over compliance concerns.
The claims, which were attributed to Mediamax, alleged that the radio station would cease operations from June 18, 2026.
In a notice posted on its X account, Kameme FM dismissed the reports, stating that none of its stations are closing and that operations will continue as usual.
“Fake news! The information did not come from the Mediamax company,” Kameme FM stated on its official X platform alongside the flagged notice,” they said on X.

The fake notice was in relation to the latest compliance issues that Kameme was facing from the Media Council Of Kenya.
Kameme has informed members of the public that the news is fake and they will be operating normally.

This was in relation to MCK reviewing Kameme FM content and alleged that the station aired unverified political claims.
The Council issued what is known as a show cause notice, meaning Kameme FM was required to respond and justify why regulatory action should not be taken.

MCK also alleged that Kameme made accusations against political figures without sufficient evidence.
The council also said that Kameme may have breached the conduct for media practice regarding accuracy, fairness and verification.
At this stage, the Council had not announced a final penalty or sanction.
These claims that had been circulating on social media saying that Kameme will be closed are what made Kameme FM to respond.
Social Media And Fake News
However Kameme have not yet responded on the issue of MCK giving them a notice regarding their content on air.

As the matter is circulating on social media Kameme FM has urged their audience to stop listening to the claims they say are fake and continue tuning in to radio.
This has raised concerns on how many people use social media to get news ans even start spreading without even verifying the news.
