Karen Nyamu Accuses Eric Omondi of Orchestrating ‘Wantam’ Chants at KICC Event

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has accused comedian and activist Eric Omondi of orchestrating the “Wantam” chants that interrupted her speech at Natalie Githinji’s Endometriosis Warriors event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The incident took place on Sunday 27 2026 when Nyamu was on stage delivering her remarks when people suddenly started chanting ‘wantam’ from the back, making it difficult for her to speak.

Speaking after the event, Nyamu alleged that Eric and the event’s master of ceremonies, Antonio, had instructed people at the back of the venue to start chanting when she was addressing the gathering.

“I believe Eric Omondi planned what happened when I took the stage. I’m told he and Antonio, the MC, instructed people at the back to chant when I spoke.

Nyamu’s Accusations

I had been seeing them make many trips to the back. Then he introduced me by saying, “Mimi na yeye hatusikizani kisiasa.” To me, that was the cue,” Nyamu said.

According to Nyamu, the event was supposed to be about Endometriosis and Natalie Githinji, but now she is the one who is trending on social media because of what people shouted at her on stage.

“Yesterday was supposed to be about Natalie and Endo awareness. I wish she was trending today instead of me. I wish all TV and Radio shows this morning were about her story and not about me. Did you notice she changed outfits several times?” said Nyamu.

In addition, she also said she was not entirely surprised by the reaction, citing Omondi’s previous criticism of the government and his involvement in organising the event.

“I was kind of expecting it because this event is by Eric Omondi and I’ve seen Eric Omondi has been at the forefront fighting the government,” she said.

Eric Omondi’s Response

Further, Nyamu explained another situation in which Eric was against her; apparently, she was supposed to buy a motorbike for someone, but Eric bought it and took credit for it.

However, Eric has disputed the circumstances surrounding Nyamu’s attendance at the event.

He said organisers had agreed that politicians would not attend because they wanted the gathering to remain focused on Natalie and endometriosis awareness.

According to Omondi, Nyamu had contacted him before the event expressing an interest in supporting Githinji.

He said she later sent Githinji Ksh100,000 but did not tell him that she planned to attend the event.

Eric also said the organisers had instructed security officers at the entrance to prevent politicians from attending, arguing that their presence could shift attention away from the main purpose of the gathering.
