Kenya Met Forecasts Rain, Cool Conditions in Nairobi and Several Counties

Kenya Meteorological Service (KMD) has forecast rainfall in several counties between August 9 and 13, with intermittent cool and cloudy conditions expected in parts of Nairobi, Central and Eastern Kenya.

According to its latest forecast for the period August 9 to 13, 2026, Kenya Met said Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Machakos, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Meru are among the areas expected to experience intermittent cool and cloudy conditions.

In Nairobi, temperatures will range between 23°C and 26°C during the day, while minimum temperatures will fall between 12°C and 14°C.

The city will experience cloudy to sunny intervals on the morning of August 9 before sunny intervals dominate during the afternoons and partly cloudy conditions occur at night.

Kenya Met Forecasts Cool Conditions In Central Kenya

Meanwhile, Murang’a will record maximum temperatures of between 19°C and 21°C, with minimum temperatures ranging from 12°C to 13°C.

The county will experience cloudy to sunny intervals on some mornings, followed by sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy conditions at night, according to Kenya Met.

Similarly, Nyeri will record maximum temperatures of between 20°C and 22°C, while minimum temperatures will range from 10°C to 12°C.

The county will receive light rains on the morning of August 9 before cloudy to sunny intervals take over on some mornings.

In Kirinyaga, light rains are expected on August 9 and 10. Temperatures will range between 23°C and 24°C during the day, while minimum temperatures will fall between 11°C and 15°C.

Further north, Kiambu will receive light rains on the morning of August 9 before sunny intervals dominate the afternoons.

Maximum temperatures will range between 23°C and 24°C, while minimum temperatures will fall between 10°C and 12°C.

Further east, Embu will experience light rains on the morning of August 9 and light showers at night on August 10.

Maximum temperatures will range between 20°C and 22°C, while minimum temperatures will range from 12°C to 14°C.

At the same time, Tharaka-Nithi will mainly experience sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy conditions at night, while maximum temperatures will range from 24°C to 26°C, and minimum temperatures will remain between 15°C and 16°C.

Rainfall Expected In Several Counties

Beyond Central and Eastern, Kenya Met predicted that several western counties will experience rainfall during the forecast period.

West Pokot will receive moderate showers during the afternoons of August 9, 10 and 11 before light showers on August 12.

Trans Nzoia will similarly experience moderate showers on August 9 and 10, followed by light showers on August 11 and 12.

Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu will receive moderate showers during the afternoons of August 9, 10 and 11. Nandi will also experience a mixture of moderate and light showers during several afternoons.

In addition, Kericho will receive light showers on August 9, 10, 12 and 13, while Kakamega will experience light showers during the afternoons throughout the five days.

Bungoma will receive light showers on the afternoons of August 9, 10, 11 and 12. Vihiga will also experience light showers on some afternoons and nights.

Busia, meanwhile, will receive light showers on August 10, 11 and 13, with another light shower expected at night on August 11.

Coastal Counties To Receive Light Showers

Along the Coast, Kenya Met predicts that several counties will also experience periods of rainfall.

Mombasa will receive light showers on the mornings of August 9, 10 and 11 before sunny intervals dominate the afternoons, whereas maximum temperatures will range between 28°C and 30°C, while minimum temperatures will range from 20°C to 23°C.

Kwale will experience light showers on the mornings of August 9, 10 and 12, as well as during the afternoon of August 9. Kilifi will receive light showers on the mornings of August 9 and 12.

Meanwhile, Lamu will receive light showers every morning throughout the five days, although sunny intervals will dominate the afternoons, Kenya Met noted.

Hot Conditions Expected In North-eastern Kenya

In contrast, temperatures will remain high in parts of northern and north-eastern Kenya.

Mandera will record the highest temperatures, reaching 37°C on August 10, 11, 12 and 13. Garissa will record maximum temperatures of between 34°C and 36°C, while Wajir will reach up to 35°C, according to Kenya Met.

Turkana will also remain hot, with maximum temperatures ranging between 35°C and 36°C.

However, Marsabit will remain considerably cooler, recording maximum temperatures of between 22°C and 24°C and minimum temperatures ranging from 14°C to 15°C.

The Kenya Meteorological Service advised the public to use the five-day forecast alongside the daily 24-hour forecast issued by the department to stay updated.
