The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has forecast rain in Kenya’s main agricultural areas over the next 10 days.
The rainfall is expected to support crop development and stimulate new pasture growth across the country.
In its Agrometeorological Dekadal Bulletin effective from May 21, Kenya Met stated that rainfall is expected in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the South Rift Valley, the Coast, the Southeastern Lowlands, and Northeastern Kenya.
The continued rains are expected to maintain adequate soil moisture for cultivated land and support vegetation recovery in Kenya’s agricultural regions.
“Continued rainfall is expected to maintain and improve soil moisture conditions in areas receiving rainfall, further assisting crops to grow and pastures to regenerate, and the farming activities, especially planting and tending during the main growing season,” stated the bulletin.

Role of the Kenya Meteorological Department and Agricultural Extension Agents in Advising Farmers
Farmers are encouraged by Kenya Met to utilize the forthcoming rainfall to ensure crops continue to grow and pastures are well-established in all agricultural regions of the country.
Livestock farmers are cautioned to ration pasture and harvest rainwater for use by animals when it does not rain for long periods of time.
Farmers are also advised to remain attentive to weather bulletins from the Kenya Meteorological Department, as well as consult their local agricultural extension agents for expert advice.
