Kenya Met Warns of 5-Day Rains & Unusual Cold in These Counties

1. The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of the country over the next five days.

Some highland counties are expected to experience unusually cold nights with temperatures dropping as low as 5°C.

The forecast, issued on September 24, covers the period from September 26 to September 30, 2026, and shows that many areas will experience sunny intervals during the day.

On the other hand, intermittent showers are expected in parts of the Coast, Central, Rift Valley, Western, Nyanza, and Upper Eastern regions.

Along Coast Areas

Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River, Taita Taveta and Garissa are expected to record warm conditions with daytime temperatures ranging between 27°C and 33°C.

Mombasa will experience light showers on Sunday and Monday mornings, while Kilifi is forecast to receive morning showers from Sunday through Wednesday.

“For Mombasa, Saturday will have sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon with light showers at night. Sunday to Monday will have light showers in the morning, light to sunny intervals in the afternoon,” said Kenya Met.

Taita Taveta is also expected to receive light rain on Sunday and Monday.

Hot Temperatures

In the North Eastern and Upper Eastern region, Mandera will remain the hottest county, with temperatures reaching 38°C.

Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni are expected to experience mainly sunny conditions.

Additionally, light rainfall is forecast around Monday and Tuesday in several counties, particularly Embu and Marsabit.

Central Kenya and Nairobi are expected to experience some of the coldest nights during the forecast period.

Extreme Cold On Nyandarua

Nyandarua will record overnight temperatures between 5°C and 9°C, while Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a and Kirinyaga will experience lows ranging from 11°C to 16°C.

Nairobi is expected to receive light rain on Monday morning, with daytime temperatures remaining between 26°C and 27°C.

Across the Rift Valley, Turkana will remain extremely hot, with temperatures of up to 38°C.

In addition, counties including West Pokot, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok and Kajiado are expected to receive occasional light afternoon showers between Monday and Wednesday. Kericho could experience moderate showers on Tuesday.

Western Kenya

In Western and Nyanza, Kakamega, Bungoma and Busia are forecast to receive rainfall at different times during the five-day period, with Kakamega and Bungoma likely to experience moderate showers on Tuesday.

Further, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira will remain generally warm, with isolated showers expected mainly on Tuesday.

The meteorological department has advised residents in areas expecting rainfall to plan accordingly, while those in colder highland counties should prepare for chilly night-time conditions.
