Kenya Railways Issues Warning Over Fake SGR Booking Platforms

Kenya Railways has issued a public notice warning passengers against fraudulent websites and online platforms claiming to sell tickets for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service.
The corporation said the fake platforms are targeting unsuspecting customers and tricking them into making payments through unauthorized channels.
It warned that victims risk losing money and exposing their personal information to fraudsters.
Fake Platforms Putting Passengers at Risk
In the notice issued on July 8, 2026, Kenya Railways said fraudsters have created fake booking platforms that imitate official services to deceive members of the public.
According to the corporation, passengers should avoid making payments through unofficial websites or individuals claiming to sell train tickets.
“Kenya Railways wishes to alert members of the public to the fraudulent websites and online platforms purporting to sell tickets for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service.”
The corporation added that the fake platforms are designed to deceive customers into making payments through unauthorized channels.
“These fraudulent platforms are designed to deceive customers into making payments through unauthorized channels, resulting in financial loss and possible compromise of personal information.”

Kenya Railways Urge Public to Only Use Official Booking Channels
Kenya Railways urged passengers to book Madaraka Express tickets only through its approved channels.
The official booking options are:
- Online: https://metickets.krc.co.ke
- USSD Code: Dial *639#
- Physical Booking: Visit any Madaraka Express Passenger Service station across the country.
The corporation emphasized that using these official channels is the safest way to purchase train tickets.

Kenya Railways also reminded the public that it communicates with customers only through the following telephone numbers:

- 0709 907 555
Passengers were advised to ignore calls or messages from any other numbers claiming to represent the corporation.
The corporation warned that it will not be responsible for any problems arising from bookings or payments made outside its official channels.
“The Corporation will not be held liable for any issues arising from bookings or calls made outside the official channels listed above.”
Kenya Railways urged members of the public to remain vigilant and verify booking platforms before making any payment to protect themselves from online fraud.
