A viral TikTok story has sparked widespread reactions online after a Filipino woman accused a Kenyan man of abandoning her and their child following a relationship in Qatar.
The man, identified as Martin Kiptoo from Eldoret, reportedly worked as a CCTV security monitor in Qatar before allegedly cutting off communication after learning about the pregnancy.
The woman says their relationship began after they met through a mutual friend at a building where Kiptoo worked as a security guard.
“Kiptoo worked as a security guard at a building I frequently visited to spend time with my fellow Filipino friends. One of my friends knew him, but was never interested in a romantic relationship with him. Kiptoo also monitored the CCTV cameras, so he would know when I was around or not. My friend introduced me to him one day, and we started talking,” she said on an Interview with TUKO.
“He told me he was interested in having a Filipino girlfriend. It was the same thing he had told my uninterested friend. I was open to being in a relationship with him. He told me he was from Kenya, and we exchanged numbers. I also told me I was rarely on WhatsApp because I used a button phone,” she added.
The two kept in touch on WhatsApp and Kiptoo introduced Joan to his family in Kenya by sending her photos and identifying them.
“This is my mum and my siblings,” he would say.
“I asked him about his father, but he never answered,” Joan said.

She further said the relationship continued for months before she became pregnant, which she said changed everything.
However, the situation reportedly worsened after she informed him of the pregnancy. She claims Kiptoo left Qatar shortly after and cut all communication, including blocking her on social media.
“He blocked me on WhatsApp, so there has been no communication. I feel so depressed and stressed because of the whole situation,” she said.
Despite the alleged abandonment, she carried the pregnancy to term and later gave birth. She has since created a TikTok account dedicated to her child, where she shares updates and emotional posts about their life.

Supporters have symbolically named the child “Prince Chebet Zuri” and are offering financial assistance and baby supplies for the mother and child.
