KMPDC Opens 2027 Licence Renewal for Doctors, Dentists and Health Facilities

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has opened the renewal of 2027 licences and Letters of Authority for medical practitioners, dental practitioners, Community Oral Health Officers (COHOs) and health facilities across the country.
In a statement dated Friday , October 9, the council said medical practitioners, dental practitioners and Community Oral Health Officers seeking to renew their licences must have at least 50 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
They are also required to maintain valid professional indemnity cover as part of the renewal process.
“Medical Practitioners, Dental Practitioners and COHOs must have the required 50 CPD points and a valid professional indemnity cover,” read part of the statement.
Doctors Must Have 50 CPD Points for Successful Renewal
Health facilities seeking to renew their Letters of Authority must similarly maintain valid professional indemnity cover, where applicable.
KMPDC directed medical practitioners, dental practitioners, COHOs and health facilities to submit their renewals through the KMPDC Online Services Portal.
Meanwhile, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics, ambulance operators and ambulances have been directed to use the separate KMPDC Registration Portal to complete their renewals.

EMTs and paramedics must also have valid professional indemnity cover to qualify for renewal.
KMPDC further stated that foreign medical and dental practitioners practising in Kenya must obtain approval from the Cabinet Secretary for Health before proceeding with their licence renewals.

The council encouraged applicants to begin the process early to give them time to address any outstanding requirements before completing their renewals.
KMPDC Lists 2027 Licence Renewal Fees And How to Pay
Kenyan practitioners will pay different amounts depending on their licence categories.
General practitioners and registrars will pay Ksh10,000 each, while senior registrars and specialists will pay Ksh20,000.
Community Oral Health Officers will be required to pay Ksh8,000 for their practice licences.
For non-Kenyan practitioners, the council has set the general practice licence fee at Ksh55,000 and the specialist practice licence fee at Ksh65,000.

On the other hand, foreign practitioners applying for temporary licences will pay Ksh90,000 for a general practice licence and Ksh130,000 for a specialist practice licence.
KMPDC directed practitioners to make payments through M-Pesa using the Lipa na M-Pesa Paybill option.
Applicants are required to use the following payment details:
- Paybill number: 222222
- Account number: The unique invoice number generated by the system
- Amount: The amount generated by the system
The council advised applicants to use the invoice generated through the online portal when making payments.
KMPDC stated that applicants whose payments have been successfully processed and whose applications receive automatic approval will be notified by email once their licences are ready.
Practitioners can then log into the Online Services Portal to download and print their renewed licences.
The council encouraged applicants experiencing difficulties during the renewal process to seek assistance through its support channels.
