KMPDU Breaks Silence on Delayed Intern Salaries, Sets Payment Date

Medical interns and MoH staff will get their 2 months’ postponed salaries next week following an announcement by KMPDU that they will start processing salaries on Saturday.

In a letter dated August 28th, 2026, KMPDU Secretary General & CEO Dr Davji Bhimji Atellah said the salary for the interns and MoH staff will be processed together, and the same will be available in your accounts on Wednesday, 2nd September 2026, at the latest.

“Payroll will be executed tomorrow, and salary transfers will begin streaming immediately, with all funds expected to reach your accounts by Wednesday next week at the latest,” Atellah said

According to the union, the delay in processing some intern pay was due to documentation requirements by the board.

“At the close of the July payroll cycle, fewer than 300 interns had returned their required documentation to the Ministry of Health (MoH), which prevented payments from being processed on schedule,” the KMPDU letter stated.

KMPDU also mentioned that the union had contacted the Ministry of Health regarding the delays and that they had received assurance from the Ministry that the salaries would be paid simultaneously.

“Following our recent engagements with MoH, it has been confirmed that salaries for all interns and MoH staff will be disbursed concurrently,” Atellah said.

The union also committed the MoH to paying the unpaid salaries this week to both interns and MoH staff.

Interns Expect Full Salary Payment

The update arrives as KMPDU begins to respond to the irritation expressed by the interns about their salary payment.

“In summary, all intern and MoH staff salaries will be fully paid over the course of next week,” the KMPDU secretary general said.

KMPDU Confirms Ongoing Salary Payments

The union also expressed its gratitude to the impacted employees for their understanding while the payment process goes on.

The letter was signed by Atellah in his role as Secretary General and CEO of KMPDU.
