Motorists in Nairobi have been advised to plan their journeys in advance following the announcement of a temporary road closure along a key section of the Southern Bypass this weekend.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has confirmed that a section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass, stretching from Ole Sereni Interchange to Lang’ata Road Interchange, will be closed on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

The closure will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to allow for the smooth running of the 2026 Nairobi Marathon, which is expected to attract a large number of participants.

The authority explained that the move is aimed at ensuring safety and smooth organisation of the marathon event, which is expected to attract participants and spectators from across the country.

“This road closure is to facilitate the 2026 Nairobi Marathon event to take place,” KeNHA stated in the notice.

Appeal for Cooperation During the Closure

“We kindly request all road users to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be on site to guide traffic during the closure,” the authority added.

The Nairobi Marathon is one of the city’s major sporting events, drawing both professional and recreational runners and typically leading to traffic changes on key roads.
