Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has rescued and taken in a nine-month pregnant woman who had been left homeless and abandoned in the streets of Nairobi.
According to Sonko, the woman was chased away from her cousin’s home at a critical stage of her pregnancy.
He added that the situation worsened after the man responsible for the pregnancy allegedly distanced himself, accusing her of disloyalty during their relationship.
“On Sunday, I rescued a woman who is nine months pregnant after she was abandoned and left homeless at the most critical stage of her pregnancy. She had been chased away from her cousin’s house, while the man responsible for the pregnancy had distanced himself, claiming she was not loyal during their relationship,” Sonko said.

Sonko said that he could not ignore the woman’s condition, especially at such a sensitive time, adding that no expectant mother should be forced to go through such hardship alone.
“No woman carrying a child should ever have to face such a situation alone,” said Sonko.
Following the rescue, Sonko’s team stepped in to provide immediate assistance.
He noted that the woman was taken under temporary care and given full support, including shelter, basic needs, and preparation for childbirth.
In addition, Sonko stated that this rescue process is aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of both the mother and her unborn baby.
“We have temporarily taken her under our care and are providing the support she needs as she prepares to bring a new life into this world. Our priority is to ensure that both mother and baby are safe and well cared for,” he added.
Call for Responsibility to Avoid Unplanned Pregnancy
The former Nairobi governor also used the incident to send a message to young people, urging them to be more responsible in relationships and life choices.
He further called on society to show compassion and support for vulnerable expectant mothers instead of subjecting them to judgment and stigma.
