Ministry of Health Announces Nationwide Deployment of 6,360 Health Interns [Full Details]

The Ministry of Health (MoH) Kenya has released the 2026/2027 internship posting for 6,360 healthcare graduates, setting the stage for a nationwide deployment aimed at strengthening service delivery across public health facilities.

In a statement issued on June 26, 2026, the internship programme will begin on July 1, 2026, and run for 12 months and targets graduates from key medical disciplines, including nursing, clinical medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and medicine.

“The Ministry of Health wishes to inform Healthcare Professional Pre-Interns, stakeholders, and the general public that preparations for the deployment of the 2026/2027 Internship Cohort have been finalized,” the ministry said.

According to the posting, the largest share of positions has been allocated to diploma clinical officer interns at 2,096, followed by 2,000 BSc nursing officer interns.

Other placements include 875 medical officer interns, 705 BSc clinical officer interns, 615 pharmacy officer interns, and 69 dental officer interns.

MoH Internship Programme Strengthens Health Workforce

Beyond the numbers, the MoH emphasized the importance of the programme in building capacity within the health sector.

“This internship programme is a critical step in equipping pre-interns with the hands-on experience necessary to deliver quality and responsive healthcare services to the people of Kenya,” the statement added.

At the same time, the government has directed all successful candidates to collect their internship offer letters in person at Afya House in Nairobi on Monday, June 29, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Applicants must present a valid national identity card.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Health Sector

Additionally, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, who signed the notice, reiterated the ministry’s commitment to strengthening the health system through continuous training and deployment of skilled professionals.

“The cadres of interns to be posted reflect the Ministry’s focus on ensuring a skilled and competent health workforce across all levels of care,” he stated.

Ultimately, the latest MoH posting underscores ongoing government efforts to improve healthcare access and capacity, especially in underserved regions, by increasing the number of trained personnel entering the system each year.
