The Long-Distance Drivers and Conductors Association has announced the shutdown of a portion of the Muhoroni-Kisumu Highway following the collapse of a bridge between the two towns, a major artery of Western Kenya.
On 28 June, LODDCA announced the closure of the route after it was blocked by a collapsed bridge along Muhoroni–Kisumu.
“One of the bridges between Muhoroni and Kisumu Road has collapsed. The road is impassable,” the association announced in a notice.
The association urged motorists to take alternative roads through Kericho or Chemelil until the situation is established.
“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes: Via Kericho or Via Chemelil. Please plan your journey accordingly. Follow directions from traffic officers,” the notice advised.

LODDCA Encourage Drivers to plan Trips in Advance and Obey Police Instructions after a bridge collapsed in Muhoroni and Kisumu Road
LODDCA also encouraged drivers to plan trips in advance, obey police instructions, and be vigilant on the road.
The Muhoroni-Kisumu Road begins from Mamboleo in Kisumu, heading east through Miwani, Kibigori, Chemelil and Muhoroni.
As part of the larger upgrade program, it extends to Kipsitet.
It is primarily in Kisumu County, with not more than a few meters passing through Nandi and Kericho counties.
The highway forms the main transport and sugar-cane corridor between Kisumu and the sugar belt, passing through the Miwani, Chemelil and Muhoroni sugar factories.
The closure contributes to disruption already experienced on other routes in the locality as the road accident caused traffic congestion while plying the Londiani-Muhoroni Highway on Saturday, 27th June 2026.

Road Safety and Accident Analysis
Several relief efforts arrived and officials started the investigation.
The area videos showed a large white truck turned over and badly damaged, with bent metal and debris strewn across the road.
A blue container truck was also present in the scene and seemed to have been involved in the crash.
An enormous amount of farm produce was also scattered over the road as a result of the crash. And cars and trucks were gridlocked for hours while the authorities cleared the destruction.
The crash caused huge congestion on the busy transport route, which stretches across parts of Kericho and Kisumu Counties, affecting both the public and private motorists carrying cargo alongside public service vehicles. Authorities confirmed investigations had been instituted.
