Mwanaa Breaks Silence on Vijana Barubaru’s Future Days After Duo Announced Split

Kenyan musician Mwana Wa Wambui, popularly known as Mwanaa, has spoken about the future of Vijana Barubaru days after the music duo announced a new chapter that will see its members pursue solo paths.

Speaking during NTV’s Friday Rave on September 12, Mwanaa appeared to leave the door open on what the development means for the group, suggesting that the changes are part of the natural evolution of musicians and their creative expression.

Asked whether the development marked a hiatus or a complete separation for Vijana Barubaru, Mwanaa said musicians eventually reach a point where they want to express themselves differently.

“Come on, listen, the thing about music is that after a while, you’ll express yourself differently,” Mwanaa said.

Mwanaa Addresses Vijana Barubaru’s Future After Split

The musician also suggested that the next phase could involve working with new people and reaching different audiences.

“For now, that’s all. We introduce new people, new markets, new faces. Every day, we’re creative, we go as far as hearts lead,” Mwanaa said.

His remarks pointed to an intention to keep experimenting, potentially through new collaborations, sounds and creative projects.

Rather than presenting the transition as the end of music-making, Mwanaa appeared to describe it as an opportunity to expand their creative horizons.

Mwanaa also appeared to highlight the importance of experimenting with different sounds and collaborations as artists evolve.

He referenced the emergence of new musical identities and the desire to explore a “big bad sound”, reinforcing his view that musicians should have room to grow beyond the style that initially defined them.

Vijana Barubaru Announce Split

Mwanaa’s comments come three days after the duo announced that they would take a break from making music together to concentrate on their individual careers.

In a statement dated September 9, 2026, Vijana Barubaru said the decision was driven by their individual growth as artists and their desire to explore new creative paths.

“Today, we want to share that we are entering a new season of our music careers. As artists and as individuals, we have both continued to grow, and out of the desire to further explore our creative journeys, we have decided to go on a hiatus to focus on our solo careers,” they said.

The duo stressed that the decision was not framed as an end to Vijana Barubaru, but as a period in which both artists could discover themselves independently.

Reflecting on their time together, Tuku Kantu and Mwanaa said they remained proud of what they had created as a team.

“Together, we have created music, memories, and moments that have shaped us,” they said.

They described Vijana Barubaru as more than a musical partnership, saying the group had provided them with a foundation, history and brotherhood that would remain part of their individual journeys.

The artists said their time together had allowed them to grow while creating a body of work and experiences that shaped who they are today.
