Maddox Opens Up on Rehab Journey, Reveals Plans to Return to Music

Gengetone artist Maddox has opened up about his rehabilitation journey weeks after Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria rescued him from the streets and took him to a rehabilitation centre.

Maddox revealed that he is now in his first month of rehabilitation and continues to receive treatment as he works towards recovery from substance use.

Initially, the artiste said he feared going to the rehabilitation centre. However, after accepting help and arriving at the facility, he realised that he had made the right decision.

“So, I made a good decision and said, let me go to that place. They came in an Uber, they came in a car. Then when I came, I was brought here and I saw that it’s a good place. But the first time, I was afraid of the whole thing. Whenever I saw them asking for an injection, I would run away,” he revealed.

Maddox Details His Rehab Experience

After settling into the facility, Maddox said the staff treated him well and provided the professional support he needed to begin his recovery, also stating the role of therapists, counsellors and doctors in his treatment.

“I came and saw that the place was good. And then, the guys treated me well. The guys are very, very friendly and they are professionals. There are therapists, counsellors and doctors. They took my blood, put me on fluids, detoxified me thoroughly, and I started the cleaning process of removing those drugs from my body,” he said.

New Music During Recovery

Meanwhile, the artiste has continued working on his music as he undergoes treatment; he said he spends part of his time reading books, watching movies and writing songs.

Maddox also hopes to leave the rehabilitation centre with new music for his fans.

“For now, I’m in my first month, and I’m recovering. I’m taking medication, I’m reading books a little, watching movies, and writing songs. And I want that when I leave, I will be coming out with songs, ready to support all my fans and my supporters, and the whole of Kenya, all the people who support me,” he said.

Furthermore, Maddox thanked the people who have continued supporting him and said he wants to reconnect with his fans when he returns to the music scene.

He also used his experience to warn people about the dangers of drug use, saying addiction can take something valuable from a person before they realise what they have lost.

“I just want to tell you that drugs can take something away from you that you may not realise what it is,” he said

Mosiria Rescued Maddox in August

Maddox’s latest update comes weeks after Mosiria stepped in to help him access rehabilitation.

On August 3, 2026, Mosiria announced that he had rescued Maddox from the streets along Mirema Drive after receiving a distress call from a concerned member of the public.

He then took the artiste to the Rapid Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction, where Maddox began his recovery journey.

Following the admission, Mosiria encouraged Maddox to remain focused on his recovery and promised to support him throughout the journey.

He also expressed confidence that the artiste could rebuild his life and return to the recording studio.

Journey in Music

Maddox rose to fame alongside Exray Taniua and Odi wa Murang’a as a member of Boondocks Gang, one of the groups associated with the rise of Kenya’s Gengetone movement. The group gained recognition through songs including Rieng, Madam, Mboko Haram and Ital.

After making his mark with Boondocks Gang, Maddox pursued a solo career. In 2022, he released his seven-track Black Canvas EP, which included Wabling featuring Gazlor and Iman Kenya, Diva featuring Alma, Raha featuring Paka Mkali, as well as Rider, Tuliza, Magarita and Matire.

However, Maddox later experienced difficult times away from the spotlight as in 2023, concerns about his condition emerged publicly after he was spotted in the Mirema area, with reports describing him as struggling with substance use.

Now, his rehabilitation journey marks a new chapter in his life, with treatment underway and new songs already taking shape. Maddox is focused on his recovery and preparing for a possible return to the music scene.
