Nairobi Golf Clubs Get Life-Saving Boost as 100 Caddies Graduate

More than 100 golf caddies from leading golf clubs across Nairobi have graduated with Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Responder certification after a one month training programme by Nairobi Hospital Brookside Dairies.

According to a press release dated July 21 2026 by Nairobi Hospital and Brookside Dairies, the graduation ceremony was held in Nairobi on July 21 2026 after the completion of the programme.

The programme was meant to equip the caddies with important emergency response skills that could assist in saving lives on the golf course.

During the training, the statement says participants learned how to recognize medical emergencies and provide immediate health care before the professional healthcare providers come.

Training Received

Participants covered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, management of chocking incidents, control of severe bleeding, basic first aid techniques and use of external defibrillators.

According to Brookside and Nairobi Hospital, golf caddies are usually the first ones to respond in case of a medical emergency because they always walk with golfers.

If they act quickly they can be able to change the outcome of the medical emergency before real help arrives.

While speaking during the graduation the Nairobi Hospital CEO Felix Osano said this initiative shows the hospital’s commitment to promoting community safety.

“For more than seven decades, The Nairobi Hospital has cared for patients at the most critical moments of their lives. This programme places life-saving skills in the hands of the people who are first on the scene when an emergency happens on the course. Equipping caddies in this way makes golf safer for players, club members, and staff alike,” said Osano.

Brookside Dairies, says the initiative aligns with its commitment to supporting healthier and safer communities.

Linda Atieno who is the general manager for marketing at Brookside Diaries said empowering caddies with such skills strengthens the preparedness in case of an emergency at golf clubs.
