Nairobi Water Announces 26-Hour Shutdown, Full List of Affected Areas Including Westlands, Lavington, Karen and Others

The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Ltd has announced a scheduled water supply interruption affecting several parts of Nairobi City County from Friday, September 11, 2026, due to emergency repair works along the Sasumua–Kabete pipeline.

The interruption will last 26 hours following the scheduled shutdown of the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant.

The exercise will start at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, and end at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

“The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd wishes to inform the public of a scheduled shutdown of the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant to facilitate emergency repair works along the Sasumua–Kabete pipeline. The Shutdown will take place on Friday, 11 September 2026 from 6:00 a.m. to Saturday, 12 September 2026 at 8:00 a.m.,” the notice read.

Nairobi Water Lists Westlands, Kilimani and Upper Hill Areas

According to the notice, the interruption will affect Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Hurlingham and Upper Hill.

In Westlands and Lavington, customers along Riverside Drive, Chalbi Drive, Convent Drive, Gitanga Road, Kunde Road, Hedred, Mbaazi, Masanduku, Leloghi Gardens, Ole Ndume Road, King’ara Road and Riara Road will experience the disruption.

Meanwhile, residents in Kileleshwa will face the interruption along Kandara Road, Gichugu Road, Mazeras Road, Mbooni Road, Othaya Road, Kaputei, Laikipia Road, Githunguri, DoD, St. George’s School and Tembere Road.

Beyond those areas, the University of Nairobi main campus, customers along the Mamlaka Line and Valley Road will also lose water supply during the scheduled shutdown.

Kilimani, Kibera and Dagoretti Areas

In Kilimani and Hurlingham, the affected locations include Argwings Kodhek Road between Chaka Road and Hurlingham, Hurlingham Shopping Centre, Mtito Andei Road, Kindaruma Road, Rose Avenue, Lower George Padmore Road, Daystar University, Denis Pritt Road and Coptic Hospital.

Similarly, customers in Upper Hill will face the interruption in Matumbato, Kiambere, Masaba, Mawenzi Road, parts of Hospital Road, Kenya Road and Elgon Road.

The affected facilities include Kenyatta National Hospital and KEMRI Flats along Mbagathi Way.

Further south, the disruption will reach Lower Gitanga Road, parts of Kawangware, Sunset Estate, Sohill City Estates, Kagira, Kagondo, Muhuri Road, Upper Kabiria, Mithonge, Kamwanya, Kahuho Road, Ngina Road, Kikuyu Road, Waithaka, Ndwaru Road, Upper Waithaka, Gachui, Kirigo, Dagoretti Market and Mariguini.

Elsewhere, Uthiru Muthua, Muchugia Road, Mutego, Mutuini and Gatina also appear on the list of affected areas.

CBD, Airport Corridor and Karen

The Central Business District will also experience the interruption, alongside areas along Mombasa Road and South B and South C estates, including Mater Hospital.

At the same time, the shutdown will affect Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, SGR, Athi River Export Processing Zone, Coca-Cola, Mukuru, Imara Daima, estates and industries along North Airport Road, Embakasi Village, Tassia Estate and MAVWASCO.

In Karen, affected locations include Bogani East Road, Muiri Lane, Forest Edge, Mukinduri Road, Muricho Road, Mukoma Road, Kisembe East, Magadi Road, Ndorobo Road, Kikeni Road, Ndovu Road, Kifaru Road, Tandara Road, Mutamaiyo, Mundenderu Road, Kikeni Close, Korongo Road and Swara Lodge environs.

The list further covers Quere Lane, Langata South Road, Mukoyeti West and East, Mukoyeti Road, Langata South Road between Bogani East Road and Ushirika, May East, Dalat, Royale, Kuwinda Road, Kufuga Road and Koitobos.

Others include: Twiga Hill, Ushirika, Masai West, Hardy, Milima, Simba Hill, Giraffe Centre, Tumbili, Macushla, Bogani Road, Nzohe, Kasuku, Kwarara, Silanga Road, Kumbe Road, Comboni and Mbagathi Ridge.

Kibera, Langata and Ngara Areas

Kibera customers in Makina, Karanja Road, Fort Jesus, Olympic, Kibera Kianda, parts of Gatwekera, parts of Ayany, Kibera Mwembeni, Makongeni, Kwa DC, Lindi, KEMRI Flats along Mbagathi Way and Highrise Estate will also experience the disruption.

Additionally, the company listed Kinoo Road, the Joseph Kang’ethe Junction, Togo Flats and Kang’ethe Greens among the affected locations.

Across Langata, Nairobi West and Madaraka, the interruption will cover Langata Barracks, Sunvalley 1 and 2, Royal Park, Dog Unit, KMA, St. Mary’s, Madaraka, Hima Gardens and Siwaka, Funguo Estate, Akila 2, Rangers Court, Leeban B and Nairobi West Shopping Centre.

Finally, customers in Ngara, Forest Road, Desai Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, Muranga Road, Park Road, Gigiri, Whispers Avenue, Village Market, UNEP and the US Embassy will also be affected.

“Customers are strongly advised to store adequate water in advance and use available supplies sparingly,” Nairobi Water advised.
