NTV Sets Record Straight on Claims of Sifuna Assassination Attempt

NTV has disowned a card circulating on social media claiming that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna narrowly escaped an assassination attempt along Mbagathi Road.

In a statement dated September 2, the media house warned the public against relying on the card, stating that it was not an authentic NTV publication.

“Please be advised that this card doing rounds on social media is fake,” NTV stated.

The card, which bears NTV branding and is dated September 2, 2026, carries the headline, “Edwin Sifuna Reportedly Escapes Assassination Attempt Along Mbagathi Road.”

It claims that Sifuna had narrowly escaped an alleged assassination attempt, adding that details of the incident were still emerging.

However, NTV has clarified that the card is fake and should not be attributed to the media organisation.

NTV Clarifies On Sifuna’s Assassination Claim

The fake card comes amid previous reports of violence and disruptions during activities linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement, which is associated with Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

Despite Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo assuring the movement of security, the group’s Homa Bay tour, members of the team and journalists were reportedly attacked as violence disrupted the political activities.

Political and digital communication strategist Pauline Njoroge recalled how vehicles in the convoy came under attack after getting stuck on roads or encountering barricades, as attackers surrounded vehicles whose occupants could not escape, assaulted people inside, and set some vehicles on fire.

A similar incident was also reported during the early stages of a Linda Mwananchi rally in Kitengela at the beginning of the year, where two people died, while the group’s convoy was badly damaged.

Linda Mwananchi Rally Disrupted in Meru

Recently, the Linda Mwananchi movement has also faced disruptions in other parts of the country.

At Makutano in Meru town, a Linda Mwananchi rally was temporarily stopped after a tear gas canister was thrown into the crowd, forcing them to run for safety as the meeting was disrupted.

The incident happened three days after President William Ruto gave assurances regarding constitutional freedoms.

These incidents have added to concerns over the safety of Linda Mwananchi leaders and supporters during political gatherings.

Meanwhile, at the time of publication of this story, neither the Linda Mwananchi movement nor Senator Sifuna had stated that the misleading information circulating online was in a card disguised as an NTV banner.
