NYOTA Addresses Distribution of Funds to Beneficiaries Through Website

The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project has cautioned beneficiaries and members of the public against fraudulent websites and applications purporting to offer access to NYOTA funds.

NYOTA clarified that it does not operate an application or website used to distribute funds to beneficiaries.

Successful beneficiaries receive payments through the phone numbers they provided when applying for the respective NYOTA interventions, according to the project.

The clarification came on Friday, September 11, following concerns over online platforms and links claiming to provide NYOTA registration or payment services.

Youth seeking support through the programme have consequently been urged to exercise caution when dealing with messages or online platforms using the NYOTA name, particularly those requesting personal details or promising access to funds.

NYOTA Clarifies Official Application Channel

For those seeking to apply for NYOTA interventions, the official application channel remains *254#.

NYOTA stressed that it does not use links to enrol beneficiaries into the programme, warning applicants against clicking on or sharing online links presented as registration portals.

Fraudsters may use websites, social media pages or applications designed to resemble legitimate NYOTA platforms in an attempt to convince members of the public that they are accessing genuine project services.

Beneficiaries looking for information on applications, payments or other interventions have been advised to depend on communication issued through recognised NYOTA channels.

Official updates are sent to beneficiaries through SMS and are also shared on the project’s official communication channels and website.

Any message directing an applicant to an unfamiliar website or external link should therefore be treated with caution and verified before further action is taken.

NYOTA Urges Public to Report Suspicious Platforms

Members of the public have also been asked to report suspicious pages, applications and messages claiming to represent NYOTA to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.

Such fraudulent platforms can expose unsuspecting applicants to financial loss or the misuse of personal information, especially when individuals are persuaded to provide details in exchange for promised payments.

Youth have consequently been advised to remain alert to unsolicited messages offering to speed up registration, unlock payments or provide access to NYOTA funds through unofficial channels.
