NYS Announces 750 Permanent and Pensionable Jobs Including Cadets-How to Apply

NYS Postpones Recruitment for Volunteers in Nairobi and Select Counties

The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced 750 permanent and pensionable job vacancies, comprising 250 positions for cadets and 500 slots for former NYS servicemen and women (privates).

In a notice dated Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the Service invited qualified candidates to apply.

“The National Youth Service (NYS) is pleased to announce to the public the recruitment of Private and Cadet Officers in the following categories,” read part of the notice.

Successful applicants will receive salary and allowances in accordance with the existing National Youth Service salary scale. They will also be covered under the SHA Scheme for Civil Servants.

The prospective candidates willing to join the National Youth Service must meet the following General, Academic and Professional qualifications:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen.

  • Cadets must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum KCSE grade of C+.

  • Diploma holders must have a minimum KCSE grade of C-.

  • Privates must have a minimum KCSE grade of D+ and possess an NYS discharge certificate.

  • Be in possession of a valid Kenyan National Identity Card (ID) and KRA PIN.

  • Be between 18 and 28 years of age.

  • Have no criminal record.

  • Be medically fit.

  • Successful candidates must undergo nine months of NYS paramilitary training at the NYS Training College.

  • Possess a certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.

  • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

For the private positions, successful candidates will earn salary and allowances in line with the existing National Youth Service salary scale. They will also be enrolled in the SHA Scheme for Civil Servants. All appointments will be on permanent and pensionable terms.

Requirements for Appointment to Private Position

  • A minimum of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education D+ (plus) or its approved equivalent.
  • Must have undergone the initial NYS Paramilitary Training.
  • Be in possession of National Trade Test, Craft or Diploma Certificate in the above listed courses.
  • Have no Criminal record.
  • Senior Service Man/Woman (I and II) certificate required for General Duty Cadre.
How to Apply

Applicants who meet the above requirements are required to download and complete the Application for Employment Form – PSC.2 (Revised 2016) from the Public Service Commission website.

Duly completed forms should be submitted through any one of the following methods:

1. Email: Scan and send the completed form to director.generalnys@gmail.com

2. Post: Send the form in a sealed envelope, clearly marked with the title of the position applied for, to:

3. Hand Delivery: Submit the sealed application at the Registry, National Youth Service Headquarters, Ruaraka, Thika Road, Ground Floor.
