ODM Senator Says It Is Easier to Be in Opposition Than Support Ruto Government

Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has stated that supporting President William Ruto’s government is much more difficult than being in the opposition.

Speaking during a TV interview on Thursday, August 13, Oketch said it is naturally difficult to support any government.

He said it is easier to be in the opposition since one only has to talk about issues that excite the crowds and those that go wrong without thoroughly interrogating them.

“Supporting the government is more difficult than being in the opposition just by nature. In opposition, you just need to talk about the wrong things without drilling into what is actually happening,” Oketch said.

Eddy Oketch Accuses Opposition of Misleading Kenyans

Oketch accused the United Opposition of radicalizing Kenyans to vote against President Ruto instead of voting for an agenda.

The Senator emphasized that Kenyans must choose whether to vote for something or against an individual.

“When we are getting into this electoral cycle, it is very important for the Kenyan people to start thinking about being in the mode for voting against something or voting for something. The mode that the opposition is pushing to Kenyans is voting against an individual, against the person,” he said.

Advice to Voters Ahead of 2027

He advised Kenyans to find something to vote for, adding that one of their options could be President Ruto’s plans to support them now and Vision 2060 for future generations.

“Could we also look at what we can vote for? One of them is the things that have been put cumulatively to work now and the possibility of building something bigger through Vision 2060 to work for us into our children’s generation,” he added.

NSSF Savings

Oketch also supported President Ruto for the transformation his administration has made at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

He said the NSSF has saved Ksh700 billion in the last four years, compared with the Ksh300 billion that had been saved since independence.

“If you look at our savings in NSSF since Independence up to the time that the President took office, we had saved only about Ksh 300 billion. Just within these three to four years, the savings have increased to Ksh 700 billion,” Oketch stated.

He explained that Kenya must rely on its savings and infrastructure to achieve its goal of becoming a First World country.

“For us to get to a Singapore status, we must not depend on other people’s savings in other countries to borrow. We must be able to depend on our own infrastructure and savings,” he said.
