Orengo Breaks Silence After Car Is Torched, Gunfire Erupts During Migori Tour

Siaya Governor James Orengo has spoken out after his official car was torched and reportedly came under live gunfire during his political tour in Migori County.
He had toured Homa Bay on August 28 before travelling to Migori on August 29, where the political activities turned chaotic.
The governor condemned the incident, saying the violence would not intimidate him or stop his political movement.
In a statement shared on social media on August 29, Orengo said his team had been warned that they would never set foot in Migori, but they went ahead with the visit.
“They swore we’d never set foot in Migori. They failed,” Orengo said.
He thanked residents for standing with his team before accusing his opponents of attacking his vehicle.
“To the cowards who sprayed live bullets into my car and torched it in Awendo to hide your crimes, your desperate violence only proves your fear,” he said.
The governor further claimed that his attackers thought they had eliminated him, but insisted that he remained ahead of them.
“You thought you eliminated me, but I am always steps ahead,” he added.
The governor vowed not to be intimidated by the incident.
“You can’t burn down a movement, and you will never intimidate me,” Orengo said, adding that he is “Unbwogable!”
Babu Owino Defends Orengo After His Car Is Torched
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also reacted to the incident involving Orengo’s vehicle.
In a social media post, he directly addressed Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and accused him of responsibility for the violence.
“Governor Ochilo Ayacko, your days in office are numbered. Burn as many cars as possible before you leave office,” Babu said.
He further alleged that justice would be pursued after Ayacko leaves office, claiming that the government would currently protect him.
“We will seek justice after you leave office because, for now, the government will protect you. We will be patient,” he added.
Babu expressed sympathy to Orengo, saying, “The arc of the moral universe may be long, but it finally bends towards justice. Pole sana, Governor Orengo.”
Ayacko Had Earlier Warned Orengo Against His Visit
The latest incident comes against the remarks attributed to Governor Ochilo Ayacko before Orengo’s visit to Migori.
In the remarks, the governor urged Orengo to stay away, saying he did not want violence in the region.
“There is a person called Orengo and the people he is travelling with. I want to tell Orengo to leave us alone,” Ayacko said.
He accused Orengo of coming to the region and provoking violence.
“You cannot come here, invite violence and violently impose yourself upon us. We do not want violence here,” he added.

Ayacko Links His Position to Kaluma
Migori Governor also spoke about his support for Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, referring to political tensions that had previously played out in Homa Bay on August 16.
He said he was defending Kaluma and claimed that residents who opposed the government had faced attacks.
Ayacko also referred to remarks he attributed to Orengo concerning women from Homa Bay and questioned whether Kaluma would have accepted such comments.
He further claimed that peaceful Homa Bay residents had chased Orengo away and criticised the veteran politician’s political approach.
” He never studied anything about politics. He is the oldest politician. He should now find something else to do,” Ayacko said.
In another part of his remarks, he appeared to distance himself from any possible confrontation between Orengo and residents of Migori.
“I don’t know what to say about Orengo. When he comes to Migori, I won’t be responsible for anything that will happen to him,” he said.
Ayacko added that it was not his responsibility to fight Migori residents.
“It’s not my job to go fight Migori people. That’s his problem. I won’t fight,” he said.
He also said he would remain silent if Orengo came to provoke residents.
“One, I’ll keep minding my silence, because if you come to provoke these people, how they react is all on you and your God,” he added.
