Siaya Governor James Orengo has demanded urgent explanations after authorities abruptly withdrew his personal and residential security detail.
The move, described as unprocedural, occurred without notice or prior communication.
In a formal letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police at Vigilance House, Nairobi, Orengo reported that officers removed his security detail suddenly.
The withdrawal left both his official and private residences without protection, with no replacement deployed.
“Yesterday evening, Tuesday, May 19th, 2026, a highly irregular and deeply concerning action was taken by the national security apparatus: the sudden, unprovoked withdrawal of my entire personal security detail, as well as the security personnel assigned to my Nairobi residence,” Orengo stated.
Further details in the letter indicated that the action took place abruptly, without prior notice, official communication, or the provision of any replacement.
The decision affected both the Governor’s protection team and officers stationed at the Nairobi residence, while no official clarification had been issued at the time of the complaint.

Statement Highlights Concerns Over Security Withdrawal
In a separate press statement, the Governor described the development as highly irregular. The statement linked the withdrawal to both personal escort and residential security deployment.
At the same time, continuity of operations remained a key message.
“However, we continue to do our work with enthusiasm and patriotism,” the statement noted.
Further emphasis went on constitutional safeguards, with the statement stressing that security provisions for State Officers support effective public service delivery.
Urgent corrective action and restoration of normal security arrangements followed as the final call.
