The National Police Service (NPS) conducted an operation and apprehended thirteen suspects during a sweep of criminal gangs in the Gitwamba area.
The police stated they conducted the operation intending to maintain law and order in the area and arrest suspected gang members and related criminals.
“National Police Service is committed to dismantling criminal gangs whose activities undermine peace and public confidence in state institutions, disrupt normal livelihoods through violence, robbery, intimidation, vandalism, amongst other lawless acts,” NPS Stated.
13 suspects were apprehended by a multi-agency security team in a successful operation however, the names of the suspects were not released, nor were any charges listed by the police service.
Neither stolen property nor arms were recovered, according to the press release from the police.
Police assured Kenyans that it would intensify and conduct intelligence-led operations.
“Service will also intensify intelligence-led operations and ensure the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators of crime,” the statement concluded.
“We urge members of the public to collaborate with security teams and give information that may assist in combating crime and bringing lasting peace to communities. We encourage members of the public to report any suspicious persons or activities within the community to the nearest police station,” said NPS.

NPS stated the swoop in Gitwamba comes at a time when there have been increasing complaints of thuggery in the county from locals, which, according to many, is being attributed to growing criminal groups.

NPS did not mention when the 13 individuals will be arraigned in court, as charges are yet to be formally preferred on them by the relevant authorities, “in accordance with the law.”
The multi-agency security team comprised police from the National Police Service, DCI, and other relevant units. NPS did not, however, specify the units that participated in the Gitwamba swoop.
