Politician and Her Children Face Charges Over Dr Mutiso’s Murder

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has filed charges against politician Rose Mbithe Ndeti and her two children, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, for the murder of psychiatrist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.

On Monday, August 24, the DPP told the Court that the three suspects had been charged with murder at the Nairobi High Court after the DCI completed its preliminary investigations.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jalson Makori appeared in court to lead the prosecution as the State withdrew its application to extend the detention of the suspect, Angela Mulwa, on orders of the court.

This followed the intervention of Angela’s lawyer, Danstan Omari, who challenged the State’s action and demanded that the prosecutors file the charges.

“The state was granted 21 days to do the investigation. We expect the state to come tomorrow with the charges,” Omari told the court.

Omari also objected to the State’s application to transfer the matter, saying: “This is two folders. So we object to that application entirely.”

Dr Mutiso was shot dead in Nairobi on 29 July 2026.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)opened a homicide investigation and subsequently stated they were following several lines of enquiry, including interviews with witnesses, forensic examinations and searches of premises associated with persons of interest.

The murder has been associated with a land dispute over plots of land in Machakos.

Dr. Mutiso’s Past Complaint and Ongoing Investigation

Court papers have revealed that Dr. Mutiso had lodged a complaint in the past about an incident involving armed men on a motorcycle who allegedly accosted her while driving.

The DCI had earlier said that exhibits recovered during searches and two persons of interest were in police custody as investigators worked to piece together the circumstances leading to the killing.

Angela Mulwa Re-arrested After Jurisdiction Challenge

Angela Mulwa was re-arrested on Monday at the Milimani Law Courts after a magistrate threw out her challenge to the court’s jurisdiction to handle a different application related to her detention.

The DPP’s registration of the murder case now places the matter beyond the stage of investigation to that of prosecution, and the suspects are likely to face the murder charge before the High Court.
