Dr Ofweneke, whose real name is Sande Bush Oyolo, was born on January 17, 1971, in Pumwani Hospital in Nairobi.
Dr Ofweneke is one of the most well-known comedians in Kenya. He is also a television and radio presenter, actor, master of ceremonies, and an entrepreneur.
His early life was marked by hardship. His biological parents, David Sande Oyolo and the late Jennifer Atieno, separated when he was only a week old after his mother left the family.
Raised by his father, stepmother and later several relatives, Ofweneke spent much of his childhood moving between Nairobi and Kakamega County.
Early Life
At different stages, he lived in Mathare, Huruma, Dandora and Mbotela before relocating to Malava in Western Kenya due to financial difficulties.
Growing up was far from easy. He has publicly recounted walking barefoot to school, studying in mud-walled classrooms, guarding his uncle’s maize farm against monkeys and, at one point, sleeping on the streets after being mistreated by relatives.

While in high school, he searched for his biological mother and reunited with her.
They remained in contact for several years before she died following an HIV related illness.
Ofweneke has often spoken about regretting not forgiving her before her death, saying the experience changed his outlook on life and forgiveness.
Education
His education took him through several schools because of the family’s frequent relocations.
He attended Nabongo, Malava, Ikonyero and Pine Breeze primary schools before joining Our Lady of Mercy Primary School and later State House Primary School in Nairobi, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
He then joined Aga Khan High School but later transferred to Mwea Boys High School, where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
While he was at Mwea Boys, his comic talent became evident as he entertained his schoolmates during assembly, which later earned him the nickname “class clown”.
He then enrolled in law school before leaving to pursue entertainment full-time.
Career
Ofweneke’s career began in radio; he was one of Kenya’s youngest radio presenters at 19 when he joined Milele FM.
Although he had initially explored the music industry, he eventually found his breakthrough in stand-up comedy.
His performances on Churchill Show introduced him to a national audience, with his flawless Nigerian accent becoming his trademark despite him being a proud Kenyan of Luhya heritage.
His success in comedy later opened doors into television and radio broadcasting.
Over the years, he has hosted various entertainment and talk shows and established himself as one of Kenya’s most Popular corporate MCs.
He currently hosts programmes on TV47 and Radio47 while also leading major corporate events, conferences and public forums.
Beyond broadcasting, he is the founder of Creatives for Christ, a mentorship initiative for young creatives, and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of 92 Degrees Creative Hub, a creative production and events company.
Personal Life
Away from his career, Ofweneke’s personal life has often attracted public attention.
He was first married to gospel singer Nicah the Queen, with whom he has two daughters.
The couple separated in 2016 but has maintained a co-parenting relationship.
