Several religious leaders gathered at Lost Beach in Malindi to hold prayers, saying they were seeking purity and restoration and to chase evil spirits after the Summer Tides festival took place.
The religious leaders said they believed the prayers were necessary to dedicate the area to God and ask for forgiveness because of what people did there during the festival.
The Summer Tides festival is a Kenyan event that usually takes place in July every year in the coastal region. It is purely an entertainment event where people meet to have fun.
This year, the event was held in Lost Beach, Malindi, where residents complained that people who attended the event lacked morals and that may have prompted the religious leaders to pray.

Videos of the event were circulating online, showing people having fun during the event, while other videos showed the downside of the event, like girls sleeping on the beach due to a lack of accommodation.
While many attendees praised the event for boosting tourism and entertainment, some religious leaders expressed concerns over what they described as activities that were inconsistent with their faith and values.
