Russian Drone Slams Into Bus Carrying Workers in Kherson

Share

A Russian drone struck a bus early Saturday, May 2, 2026, in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, killing two people and injuring seven others, Ukrainian authorities said.

Officials reported that the bus carried mostly public utilities workers at the time of the attack. Regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin shared images on Telegram showing the wrecked vehicle with shattered windows and blood inside.

Emergency teams quickly rushed to the scene and evacuated the injured for treatment. Authorities confirmed that most victims worked in public services.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets condemned the strike and linked it to wider attacks on civilians.

“Such attacks are part of a systemic policy of terror against the civilian population,” Lubinets said on Telegram.

Allegations of Systematic Drone Attacks on Civilians

In addition, Ukrainian officials and human rights organisations accuse Russian forces of deliberately targeting civilians with small drones in frontline areas.

At the same time, they point out that Kherson continues to face repeated strikes because it sits just across the Dnipro River from Russian positions, leaving civilians exposed to ongoing attacks.

Human Rights Groups Accuse Moscow of Deliberate Strikes

Furthermore, these groups argue that Russian troops intentionally target non-military infrastructure, especially in southern regions where civilian life remains highly vulnerable.

Kherson has endured frequent drone and artillery attacks since Ukrainian forces retook the city in 2022 after an earlier Russian occupation. However, Russian forces continue to launch strikes from across the Dnipro River, maintaining pressure on the region.

The Dnipro River now forms a frontline boundary, and both sides report repeated attacks on nearby civilian areas.

Odesa Port Facilities Damaged in Overnight Strikes

Elsewhere, the Odesa region also came under fire overnight. Regional governor Oleh Kiper said a warehouse and nearby buildings at a port suffered damage, although officials reported no casualties.

Finally, Ukraine’s air force said it intercepted 142 out of 163 long-range drones launched by Russia overnight. However, several drones still reached their targets and caused damage across multiple regions.
