Government Launches Second Nyota Business Support Payout

President William Ruto has announced the rollout of the second phase of the government’s Nyota Programme business support component, with 122,000 beneficiaries set to receive Ksh 25,000 each.

The President shared the update after receiving a briefing at State House, Nairobi, on the progress of the programme ahead of the official launch of the second disbursement on Friday July 10.

According to President Ruto, the government will release Ksh 3 billion under the second tranche of the Nyota Programme’s business support component.

Each of the 122,000 beneficiaries from all 47 counties will receive Ksh 25,000.

This follows an earlier payment made at the beginning of the year, bringing the total amount each beneficiary will have received under the programme to Ksh 50,000.

“Briefed on the progress of the Government’s Nyota Programme business support component, State House Nairobi, ahead of the launch of the second disbursement on Friday,” Ruto said.

“With the launch of the Ksh 3 billion second tranche of the business support component for the 122,000 beneficiaries, each beneficiary will receive Ksh 25,000. In addition to a similar amount they had received earlier in the year, each beneficiary will have received a total of Ksh 50,000.”

Nyota Beneficiaries Trained Before Receiving Funds

The President said all beneficiaries have already completed a business development skills programme to help them strengthen and grow their businesses before accessing the funds.

“Already, the beneficiaries have undergone a business development skills programme,” he said.

How the Programme Works

Under the Business Support Programme, qualifying beneficiaries receive Ksh 25,000 in two separate tranches to support their businesses.

From every tranche, Ksh 3,000 is automatically deposited into the beneficiary’s NSSF Haba Haba savings wallet to encourage a culture of saving.

Those enrolled in the On-the-Job Experience Programme receive a monthly stipend of Ksh 6,000 for six months.

From each monthly payment, Ksh 720 is automatically credited to their NSSF Haba Haba savings account.

The programme divides savings into two categories:

30% Short-Term Savings -accessible one year after saving begins.

70% Long-Term Savings – with half available after five years, while the remaining balance is preserved to support future financial goals.

The government says the savings model is designed to promote long-term financial planning while still giving beneficiaries access to part of their money.

Participants are also encouraged to make additional voluntary contributions to grow their savings further.
