Ruto Announces Major Post-Vision 2030 Plan, Sets August 12 Launch

President William Ruto has announced that Kenya will officially launch a national conversation on the country’s future beyond Vision 2030 on August 12, 2026.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday, July 30, during his special national address, President Ruto said the initiative will bring Kenyans together to chart the country’s next development agenda after Vision 2030 expires.

“On August 12, 2026, we shall formally launch a national conversation on Kenya’s future beyond Vision 2030,” Ruto said.

Ruto Explains How National Conversation Will Be Conducted

He noted that the conversation will provide an opportunity for citizens and stakeholders to contribute ideas that will shape Kenya’s long-term social, economic, and governance priorities beyond the current national development blueprint.

Ruto described the exercise as one of the country’s most important public participation processes since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, saying it would involve broad consultations across all sectors of society.

According to the President, the process will bring together institutions of government, all 47 counties, political parties, the private sector, workers’ organisations, faith-based groups, universities, professional associations, innovators, civil society organisations, the creative industry, and young people.

He said the consultations are intended to help develop a shared vision for Kenya’s future after Vision 2030, with input from citizens across generations and regions.

New Development Plan Beyond Vision 2030

Ruto said Kenya has made progress in strengthening democratic institutions under the 2010 Constitution and should now focus on laying a firm foundation for long-term economic prosperity.

“In 2010, we gave ourselves a Constitution worthy of our dreams. The task of our generation is to build a nation worthy of that Constitution. We have secured the foundations of our democracy. Let us now secure the foundations of our prosperity,” he said.

The President said the national conversation will help create a new long-term development plan to replace Vision 2030. He said the plan will be guided by the Constitution and built on lessons learned from Kenya’s past development efforts.

Ruto said the process will give Kenyans a chance to discuss the country’s progress, identify areas that still need improvement, and agree on the priorities that will guide the country’s development in the years ahead.

He added that the new plan is meant to give Kenya a shared long-term vision that will continue beyond changes in government and election cycles, with citizens playing a key role in shaping the country’s future.
