Ruto Says He Wants to Cry Because of Wajir People

President William Ruto said he was deeply moved during the Madaraka Day celebrations held at the newly constructed stadium in Wajir County.

He said he had never shed tears in any previous Madaraka Day celebrations, but admitted that this occasion felt different due to the strong emotions he experienced while engaging with the residents of Wajir and the wider Northern Kenya region.

“I have never shed tears in any Madaraka Day Celebrations, but today is different. I feel you, I feel this moment, and I feel the people of Northern Kenya,” Ruto said.

He assured residents that the government would continue to walk with them “shoulder to shoulder,” reaffirming a commitment to unity, shared progress, and a common national destiny for all Kenyans.

“I want to assure you that we are going to walk together shoulder to shoulder as one people and one nation with a common destiny,” he added

This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations were particularly significant as they were hosted in Northern Kenya, a region that has historically faced development challenges.

The celebrations featured cultural performances from local communities, showcasing the heritage of Wajir County and the wider northern region.

Leaders present praised the decision to host the event in Wajir, describing it as a step toward strengthening national cohesion.

Madaraka Day

Madaraka Day commemorates Kenya’s attainment of self-governance in 1963 and remains a key national holiday that reflects on the country’s journey on independence and unity.

The President highlighted investments in roads, electricity expansion, water supply, and education infrastructure, saying these sectors are key to transforming livelihoods in the region.

He noted that improved connectivity would help integrate Northern Kenya more fully into the national economy and open up opportunities for trade and investment.

Ruto further reaffirmed that his government would continue to invest in transformative projects which are aimed at improving living standards, creating jobs, and strengthening national cohesion through equal development opportunities.
