Scare at JKIA as Jambojet Flight Was Forced to Abort Takeoff

Passengers aboard a Jambojet flight from Nairobi to Kisumu were safely evacuated after the aircraft developed a system alert before takeoff on Sunday morning.

The incident involved Flight JM 8650, which was scheduled to fly from Nairobi to Kisumu.

According to Jambojet, the aircraft, registered as 5Y-JXL, experienced a system caution alert at approximately 6:00 a.m. on July 26, 2026.

The airline said the alert occurred before the aircraft took off, prompting the crew to abort the takeoff as a safety precaution.

“Jambojet wishes to confirm that at approximately 0600hrs today, flight JM 8650, operated on 5Y-JXL from Nairobi to Kisumu experienced a system caution alert before takeoff and, as a safety precautionary measure, takeoff was aborted,” the airline said.

Passengers and Crew Safely Disembarked

Jambojet confirmed that all passengers and crew members safely left the aircraft following the incident.

The airline said its ground team provided the necessary assistance to those on board.

“The aircraft was safely moved back to the bay for technical evaluation by our maintenance team,” Jambojet said.

The aircraft will undergo further assessment as the airline’s maintenance team works to establish the cause of the system alert.

Jambojet Apologises to Passengers

The airline apologised for the distress and inconvenience caused by the incident.

“ We sincerely apologise for the distress and inconvenience this incident may have caused and assure that the safety and well-being of our guests and crew remain our top priority,” Jambojet said.

The airline did not immediately provide details on whether the flight would be rescheduled or the nature of the technical issue that triggered the caution alert.

The Jambojet incident comes amid recent disruptions affecting air travellers at JKIA, including delays and cancellations linked to operational challenges and air traffic control restrictions.

Kenya Airways has previously acknowledged that such factors can affect flight schedules and inconvenience passengers.
