In March 2023, a 22-year-old patient admitted to Ward 7B at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) died after reportedly jumping from the seventh floor. Security officers were said to have heard a loud thud around 1 a.m. before the patient was found dead on the ground floor.
Just three months later, in June 2023, another patient, identified as 23-year-old Daniel Mohamed, died after falling from the fourth floor of KNH’s 4C ward. The incident was treated as a suspected suicide, with reports indicating that he had previously survived a lynching attempt.
Outside KNH, other hospitals have experienced comparable tragedies. In April 2026, a 61-year-old man died after falling from the third floor of a hospital building in Gatundu, prompting a police investigation.
