Sifuna Launches New Party After Failed Bid to Acquire Established Party

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has launched a new political vehicle today October 4 as he seeks to advance his political ambitions, following developments surrounding the Linda Mwananchi Movement and efforts to secure an established party.
Sifuna is weighing his options as efforts to establish a new political vehicle continue. The Equitable Party is already a fully registered political party, making it an option for Sifuna as he considers his next political move.
The discussions come as the Linda Mwananchi Movement also seeks to establish itself as a political vehicle.
The Linda Mwananchi Movement recently secured approval to reserve its name following a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
TEP Makes Room for Edwin Sifuna and Supporters
The Equitable Party (TEP) party leader Gilbert Marava said the party had agreed to restructure its leadership to accommodate Sifuna and his supporters.
“On our end, we have decided to restructure, and in the process, those who registered will stay, and we will bring in our brothers,” Marava said.
Marava also confirmed Sifuna’s presidential ambitions and his new position within the party.
“Sifuna is going to run for president, and he will be the next leader of the Equitable Party (TEP),” Marava added.
The move provides Sifuna with a formal political platform as he seeks to transition the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) into an electoral vehicle ahead of the 2027 polls.

Sifuna’s Political Shift
The announcement follows weeks of political activity surrounding Sifuna’s presidential ambitions and efforts to establish a party platform for his 2027 campaign.
Earlier reports had linked his movement to other possible political vehicles as discussions continued over how to turn the Linda Mwananchi Movement into an electoral platform.
Sifuna, who serves as Nairobi senator, has increasingly positioned himself as a presidential contender ahead of the 2027 election.
The launch also marks Sifuna’s formal entry into a new political platform following his fallout with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), where he previously served as secretary-general.
