Sonko, Former KNBS Director and Ex-Prisons Boss to Face Corruption Cases This Week

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, former Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Director General Antony Kyalo Kilele, and former Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons Benjamin Obuya Njoga are among former public officials scheduled to appear in court this week over corruption-related cases.

The cases are part of eight matters listed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for hearing, mention or ruling between August 10 and 14, 2026.

The cases involve alleged loss or irregular acquisition of millions of shillings in public funds and property.

The allegations include conflict of interest, abuse of office, fraudulent acquisition of public property, money laundering and irregular procurement. The cases collectively involve hundreds of millions of shillings.

Sonko’s Ksh24.1 Million Conflict of Interest Case

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Gideon Kioko Sonko and 25 others are scheduled to appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on August 10 and 13, 2026.

The accused face charges of conflict of interest in a case involving an alleged loss of Ksh 24.1 million from the Nairobi City County Government.

The EACC alleges that Sonko, together with directors of private limited companies, was involved in the alleged embezzlement of the funds.

The matter will continue before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court as the prosecution pursues its case.

Sonko has previously faced several corruption-related cases arising from his time as Nairobi governor.

Former KNBS Director’s Procurement Case Among the Corruption Cases Listed 

Former KNBS Director General Antony Kyalo Kilele and another accused person will appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on August 10, 2026.

The two face charges of wilful failure to comply with the law relating to the procurement of public services.

According to the EACC, the case involves the alleged fraudulent award of a storage contract and authorisation of payment to B.M. Logistics (EA) Ltd, which the commission describes as a non-existent company.

The matter will come up for mention as the court continues to deal with the allegations.

Ex-Prisons Boss in Ksh301.9 Million Case

Former Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons Benjamin Obuya Njoga and 12 others will also appear in court on August 11, 2026.

They face charges including abuse of office, fraudulent acquisition of public property or revenue, and money laundering.

The EACC alleges that the accused were involved in the fraudulent acquisition of public property worth Ksh301.9 million.

The alleged loss relates to payments for goods that were reportedly not supplied to the State Department for Correctional Services.

The case will be mentioned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.

Former West Pokot Education Chief Faces Ksh296.5 Million Case

Former West Pokot County Chief Officer for Education Simon Kachapin and three others are scheduled to appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on August 11, 2026.

They face charges of conspiracy to commit an economic crime and fraudulent acquisition of public property.

The allegations concern irregular withdrawals totaling Ksh296.5 million from the West Pokot County Bursary, Education Development and Infrastructure Fund bank account.

The EACC says county government officials allegedly made the withdrawals between February 2018 and December 2021.

The court will hear the matter as the accused continue to face the corruption allegations.

National Museums Officials Face Ksh441.4 Million Recovery Case

Mzalenendo Kibunijia and seven others will appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court in a separate recovery case involving Ksh 441.4 million.

The EACC is seeking to recover the money, which it alleges was embezzled at the National Museum of Kenya.

According to the commission, the funds were allegedly paid as salaries to people who were not employed by the institution.

The case is scheduled for hearing on August 10, 11, 12 and 13, 2026.

Ksh7.5 Million Grant Case Set for Ruling

Michael Chesikaw is also scheduled to have his case determined this week.

The EACC is seeking recovery of Ksh 7.5 million, which it alleges was illegally paid to Chesikaw as a grant by the National AIDS Control Council.

The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court is scheduled to deliver a ruling on August 11, 2026.

The matter is one of the recovery cases being pursued by the anti-graft agency to reclaim funds it says were unlawfully obtained.

Public Land Recovery Case

Simon Ngunyi and seven others are scheduled to appear before the Environment and Land Court in Nanyuki on August 12, 2026.

The suit seeks recovery of public land identified as Laikipia Nanyuki West Timau/Block 2/290-1040/1041/1042/1043.

The EACC has classified the matter as a case involving allegedly grabbed public land.

The court will consider the recovery claim as the commission seeks to restore the property.

Makadara Case Involves Ksh12.1 Million Property

Johnson Jackson Githaka and John Faustin Kinyua are also set to appear before the Makadara Law Court on August 11, 2026.

The two face charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property.

The EACC alleges that abuse of office resulted in the illegal acquisition of public property valued at Ksh12.1 million.

The matter will come up for mention.
