16 Utumishi Girls Academy Students Confirmed Dead After Midnight School Fire

16 students are dead following a fire incident in Utumishi Girls Academy in Nakuru County.
According to reports, the girls were unable to open the doors when the fire broke out in the middle of the night.
Another 74 girls are reportedly injured due to the commotion caused by the fire breakout
Red Cross says its emergency team responded to the case and is still on the ground to support the students who are injured.
Red Cross Responds To Incident At Utumishi Girls Academy
“Following a fire incident reported at around 3:30 am at Utumishi Girls Academy in Nakuru County, Kenya Red Cross responded to support the ongoing emergency response.” Said Redcross on X.
There has been no official report to state the cause of the fire in the school.

Parents of the students have gone to the school after hearing about the tragedy. According to photos and videos online, parents and relatives are gathered at the school to look into the matter.
The Rift Valley Regional Commander, Masoud Munyi, has said that they will only allow parents to access the school as they carry out a head count.
Police Look Into The Matter
“We have deployed our officers and DCI detectives to the school, and a head count is currently underway to establish exactly how many students were present at the time of the fire. For now, only parents will be allowed access into the school,” stated Masooud.
Even after the police allowed the parents inside the school, some parents still say that they are not aware of the situation of their kids inside.
The injured students have reportedly been taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Gilgil for assessment and treatment.

This latest fire incident adds to other recent fire incidents in schools all over the country as parents with students in boarding schools are alarmed about the safety of their children.
The police are investigating the case to determine the cause of the fire and how many students were lost following the incident at the school.
