Trump Unveils Ksh 31.3B Fresh Funding for Ebola Response as Kenya Boosts Preparedness

The United States has announced an additional 242 million U.S. dollars (approximately 31 billion) to support immediate Ebola response and preparedness in Kenya.

According to the U.S. Department of State on August 11, 2026, the additional funding is aligned with the U.S. government’s commitment at the G7 leaders’ summit to provide up to an additional 500 million U.S. dollars on Ebola response efforts.

“The United States continues to be the largest financial contributor to the Ebola response. This additional funding will enable the United States to continue work with governments, private sector partners, and humanitarian implementers to mount a robust and comprehensive response,” read the statement in part.

The U.S. assistance to combat the Ebola outbreak has now exceeded a total of 512 million U.S. dollars in direct assistance.

Ebola Preparedness

This has enabled implementing organizations to expand the ongoing Ebola response in African countries.

On the same note, it is an addition to 350 million U.S. dollars for critical humanitarian assistance in the DRC, South Sudan, and Uganda, as part of our 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in assistance to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced on May 14.

“The United States continues to be the largest financial contributor to the Ebola response. This additional funding will enable the United States to continue work with governments, private sector partners, and humanitarian implementers to mount a robust and comprehensive response,” read part of the statement.

The Department of State says that the Trump administration remains committed to remaining in constant communication with U.S. citizens who were affected.

Their citizens who were currently in the DRC are being assisted financially, including financial loans to secure a place of living before returning to the U.S.

However, the U.S. government still has restrictions on people who are traveling from the DRC; they are not allowed into the country as a measure to prevent Ebola.

American citizens are also not allowed to travel to countries that have reported an Ebola outbreak; this is also a measure to prevent Ebola from spreading to other countries.
