A video of a mother who appeared to be disciplining her male child has been circulating on social media and the family has been found. They apologise for the video, saying the mother did not actually burn the child but only scared him.

In a new video making rounds on social media, the family is apologising to Kenyans, saying that their child was a thief and they had to do something to make him stop that bad behaviour.

I want to say to Kenyans that I’m a responsible mother, one who cares for her children and this is not even my firstborn child and the video that has been shared has been misinterpreted by Kenyans,” said the child’s mother.

She says some Kenyans claimed that she is a bad or cruel mother and she is appealing to Kenyans to know that the child is hers and she is a good mother to him.

The Family Speaks

In the video, she shows the child’s hands, saying the child is in grade four and she did not burn him because his hands have no marks to show that he was burnt by the mother.

“People have been saying that I burnt him but I did not, I was just using another method to instil discipline in him because of a certain behaviour that he was developing, stealing,” the mother said.

Apparently, according to the mother of the boy, he could sneak into her wallet or the father’s wallet and steal some coins and she tried talking to him and even beating him, but he was not changing.

That is when they decided to sit down as a family and agree to use another method to scare the boy so that he would stop stealing and grow up responsibly.

The Child Speaks

“The drama that you have been seeing was just meant to scare the child, it is not a real video, if whatever I was pouring on the child was kerosene, you could see burn marks on him,” she said.

The grade four child also spoke in the video, saying that he was stealing his parents’ money and it was a mistake and he promised to never steal again.

His father also spoke, saying that they never burnt the child and the act was just meant to scare him so that he can stop the bad behaviours that he was developing.

“We planned to scare the child so that he could stop the behaviours that he was developing, from that time he has changed and is now a disciplined boy,” the father said.

Additionally, the family claims the video was posted in 2024 and it just resurfaced from one of their children’s social media.

As the video continues to circulate on social media, Kenyans continue to call people out for their mistakes while others say the family did a good thing.
