Former governors Ferdinand Waititu, Francis Mwangi wa Iria, and Evans Kidero are set to return to court this week as anti-corruption proceedings linked to millions of shillings in alleged public funds losses continue at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
The cases, involving recovery claims by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), will see the courts handle matters involving alleged conflict of interest, irregular procurement, unlawful acquisition of public property and embezzlement claims.
The suits collectively involve more than Ksh 700 million.
Mwangi wa Iria, the former Murang’a County governor, together with Top Image Media Consultants and seven others, is scheduled to appear on June 22 and 23, 2026, over a civil recovery case seeking Ksh 547 million allegedly paid to the company through contracts awarded under circumstances described by investigators as a conflict of interest.
EACC alleges that during Wa Iria’s tenure, Murang’a County awarded media and publicity contracts worth hundreds of millions to Top Image Media Consultants, a firm investigators linked to his associates.
The commission has also sought recovery of two parcels of land allegedly bought using proceeds of the questioned transactions.
Wa Iria’s Media Tender Case and Asset Recovery Bid
Wa Iria allegations emerged from investigations into county contracts issued between 2013 and 2017.
The anti-graft agency claimed that Top Image received more than Ksh 542 million from Murang’a County and that funds were allegedly transferred to entities associated with the former governor and his family.
The former governor was arrested and charged in 2024 alongside other suspects over allegations including abuse of office, conflict of interest, money laundering, and unlawful acquisition of public property.
He denied the charges.
The court later declined an attempt to halt the proceedings, allowing the matter to continue.
Authorities have previously frozen properties linked to the case, including parcels in Nairobi and Nyeri, pending determination of the recovery suit.
The EACC has argued that the assets were acquired through proceeds connected to the disputed contracts.

Ferdinand Waititu Graft Case
Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu will appear in the recovery court on June 24, 2026.
It involves Testimony Enterprises and six others, with the EACC seeking to recover Ksh 147 million allegedly lost through an irregular road construction contract procurement process.
The case traces back to investigations into a road upgrade contract awarded during Waititu’s time as governor.
The anti-graft agency argued that procurement procedures were breached in awarding the tender.
Court proceedings have focused on whether public funds paid under the contract should be recovered.
Kidero City Hall Funds Case Continues
Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is also scheduled for a mention on June 23, 2026, in a case involving a Ksh 58 million recovery claim linked to alleged loss of funds from the former Nairobi City Council.

The EACC alleges that Kidero and 13 others were involved in the irregular payment and acquisition of public funds during transactions involving City Hall.
The case relates to payments allegedly made for services the commission claims were not properly rendered.
Former Nairobi governor and his co-accused have denied the allegations.
Previous court proceedings saw Kidero challenge aspects of the case, but courts allowed the matter to proceed.
The Court of Appeal dismissed an attempt to stop the recovery proceedings, stating the case should continue in the public interest.
In earlier developments, investigators sought to trace alleged proceeds into properties associated with Kidero, including luxury apartments, as part of efforts to recover funds believed to have been lost from public coffers.
