Naiyanoi Ntutu, who is the widow of the late MP Johana Ngeno, is facing online backlash over her Instagram stories, where she posted herself with a young man with a love song in the background.

In the video she posted on Instagram, she appears to be hiding the face of the young man that she was enjoying some quality time with.

Naiyanoi’s late husband, Johana, who was a member of parliament for Emurua Dikirr constituency, died in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026.

She is now facing backlash because people suspect she has entered into a new relationship with the young man she posted months after the death of her husband.

Backlash On Social Media

Many people on social media are questioning whether she has mourned her husband enough for her to get into another relationship immediately and also post the new man.

Naiyanoi however, did not say on her Instagram post who that young man was, leaving Kenyans to guess by the look of things in her video together with the song in the background.

The Instagram stories have therefore sparked a heated debate across social media with netizens airing out different opinions on Naiyanoi.

Online Reactions

“African culture allowed/ allows for 1-2 years before someone starts a relationship again. I think elders should restore and reaffirm that part, before it’s forgotten,” said Nicholas.

Bobby said “Buana, women! Something about them they’re not human,”

Camilla said “Isn’t this too soon yawa,”

“He ain’t new, you just never knew,” James said.

Naiyanoi Remains Silent

While some netizens defended Naiyanoi, saying that she is free to move on and date anyone she wants, the majority were questioning how long is enough to mourn a husband before moving on.

As the online debate continues, it has unfolded a debate on grief, remarriage and how long society expects widows to mourn before finally moving on.

Naiyanoi has also not addressed these claims, saying she is in a new relationship, while the video does not confirm whether the man is her boyfriend or that she has moved on.
