Share

President William Ruto has left the country for an official visit to Italy, where he is expected to hold high-level bilateral talks which are aimed at unlocking new infrastructure and investment deals between the two countries.

State House Spokesperson Hussine Moahmed said the visit will include meetings with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to strengthen strategic cooperation across key sectors.

Hussein also says that a major focus of the trip will be accelerating progress on the Arror, Kimwarer, and Itare dam projects, which are part of Kenya’s broader irrigation expansion agenda.

The government says the projects are critical to boosting food security, increasing agricultural productivity, and supporting the country’s long term economic transformation plans.

What Ruto Will Do In Italy

During the visit, President Ruto is also expected to engage investors at the Kenya-Italy Business Forum and hold discussions with multilateral partners, including IFAD and FAO, to mobilise support for agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and human capital development under Italy’s Mattei Plan framework.

Ruto’s visit forms part of the government’s broader strategy to expand irrigation to 2.5 million acres within seven years while strengthening infrastructure and accelerating energy generation.

Food Security As Priority

The initiatives are expected to play a central role in enhancing food security and supporting Kenya’s transition into a more competitive agricultural and industrial economy.

Hussein indicated that the engagements in Rome will provide a platform for Kenya to showcase priority investment opportunities in infrastructure development.
