207,451 Youth Register for National Youth Council Elections Ahead of Deadline

A total of 207,451 youths have registered to vote in the upcoming National Youth Council elections, as the registration exercise closes on Wednesday, September 30, at 5:00 p.m.
Figures released by the National Youth Council as of 9:00 a.m. Wednesday show that all counties now have registered voters, with Nairobi recording the highest number at 16,741 and Taita Taveta the lowest at 734.
5,797 Candidates Seek 8,700 Ward Delegate Positions
The voter registration figures come as 5,797 candidates have stepped forward for a potential 8,700 ward delegate positions across the country.
Of those who have presented themselves for the positions, 1,736 candidates have received 50 or more nominations, while 88 wards currently have no candidates.
Eligible youth aged between 18 and 35 years who have not yet registered have been urged to complete the process before the deadline.
“Only duly registered voters will be allowed to participate in the ward, constituency, and National Youth Council elections.” The statement said.
Registration can be completed through the official elections platform or by dialing *320#.
Candidate Verification to Begin After Deadline
Once registration and nomination close, the Council will begin verifying documents submitted by candidates before publishing a list of duly nominated candidates.
The process will be conducted pursuant to Regulation 28 of the National Youth Council (Election of Certain Council Members) Regulations.
Meanwhile, the voter register will be published and subjected to verification in line with Regulation 15(2) of the National Youth Council (Election of Certain Council Members) Regulations, 2021.

No further voter registrations will be accepted after the 5:00 p.m. deadline on September 30.
The Council has also provided 0700 692 692 as its WhatsApp contact for further clarification and said daily online civic education sessions are held from 2:00 p.m.
