NYC Breaks Silence, Denies Calls for PS Fikirini Jacobs' Resignation

The National Youth Council (NYC) has denied reports claiming it supported calls for the resignation of Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Fikirini Jacobs.

In a press statement released on Monday, July 6, 2026, the council said recent media reports wrongly linked it to allegations surrounding the alleged shooting of youth mobiliser Cecil Ouma on June 30, 2026.

The council said it has not taken part in any campaign calling for the removal of the Principal Secretary.

“We wish to categorically state that the National Youth Council is not a party to these allegations, nor have we sanctioned any calls for the removal of the Principal Secretary,” the statement read.

The council added that the reports do not reflect its official position and are inconsistent with its mandate.

It said it remains a non-partisan institution committed to promoting the welfare and empowerment of young people across Kenya.

Council Says Legal Process Should Be Followed

The NYC said it respects the rule of law and believes that any complaints against public officials should be handled through the proper legal and administrative processes.

“We believe that any grievances or accusations regarding the conduct of a public official should follow the established legal and procedural frameworks,” the statement said.

The council also clarified that it has no authority to demand the resignation of the Principal Secretary and does not intend to engage in issues outside its legal mandate.

NYC Raises Concern Over Media Reporting

The council expressed concern over what it described as false and unverified information published by some media outlets.

It warned that spreading unconfirmed claims could mislead the public, damage the reputation of institutions, and increase tension.

“While we acknowledge the critical role the media plays in informing the public and holding leaders accountable, we are deeply concerned by the publication of what are outright false and unsubstantiated allegations,” the statement said.

Appeal for Accurate Reporting

The National Youth Council urged media houses to verify information before publishing it.

It also called on journalists, civil society groups, and members of the public to promote responsible communication based on facts and mutual respect.

“We respectfully ask the involved outlets to desist from spreading misinformation, particularly when it touches on the reputation of public institutions and their officers,” the council said.

The council said it remains committed to transparency and will continue issuing official updates through its established communication channels.
