Open University of Kenya Advertises 60+ Vacancies for Academic and Support Staff

The Open University of Kenya (OUK) has announced a recruitment campaign, opening academic and administrative staff positions to bolster its leadership and operational capacity.

In an external advertisement published in MyGov, the university invited qualified Kenyans to apply for more than 60 positions spread across teaching, research, ICT, audit, finance, procurement and general administration

Chartered in August 2023, OUK is Kenya’s first specialized public university dedicated to providing affordable, flexible, and accessible online education.

Located approximately 70 kilometers from Nairobi at Konza Technopolis in Makueni County, the institution is a cornerstone of the government’s strategy to foster a knowledge-based society.

Opportunities are available in the School of Science and Technology, the School of Business and Economics, and the School of Education, with the Division of Academic and Research holding the majority of the positions.

In fields like computer science, mathematics, statistics, agriculture, health sciences, accounting, project management, and language instruction, positions include senior lecturers, lecturers, tutorial fellows, and research assistants.

The university noted that the Terms of Service will be either Permanent and Pensionable OR Contract, as shall be determined by the University Council.

Application Details and Deadlines

Interested candidates are required to submit their applications through the university’s official career portal at ouk.ac.ke/careers.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

  1. All applications should be submitted with an Application Letter, a detailed Curriculum Vitae indicating academic qualifications, professional experience, academic leadership, list of publications, awards, scholarships, funding, membership to professional associations or bodies and linkages, valid email addresses, telephone contacts, copies of certificates, National ID, and other testimonials; These shall be uploaded as a one complete running document in the application section of the system.
  2. Applicants with degrees from foreign Universities MUST attach letter(s) of recognition from the Commission for University Education (CUE) as part of the application document.
  3. Only shortlisted candidates shall be contacted and shall be required to ask three (3) of their referees to share references directly to the University using a system mechanism that shall be provided.
  4. Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya will be upheld and any form of canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification

This recruitment coincides with the university’s January 2026 intake, as OUK continues to expand its student enrollment. With a goal to grow from 3,500 students to over 50,000 by the end of 2026, the university is leveraging technology to break traditional barriers to higher education.
